In the third row, children are shown in typical 16 century clothing. The girl is playing
with a hoop and stick and the boy plays with a diabolo.
They are surrounded by trees and there is a grapevine at the bottom of the vignette
symbolising a place of peace and plenty that Henry VIII’s children, Prince Edward
and Princess Elizabeth, might have enjoyed.
Row four symbolises the elegant façade of Forty Hall as built by Sir Nicholas Rainton
between1629-1632. The symmetrical design, elaborate chimneys and fine brickwork
are represented in a variety of stitches.
Either side of the house are curving stems supporting leaves, flowers and even a
couple of insects!
